Tracking Light Aircraft with Smartphones at Low Altitudes

Most aircraft in the world are tracked by various surveillance radar systems. Currently there is no legal requirement for light to be fitted with a transponder; however, this does not mean should tracked. By adding cheap, live tracking solution aircraft, safety of low-flying pilots can greatly increased. The radio operators who coordinate have an improved understanding air traffic and event emergency, position relayed emergency services. This paper proposes approach use smartphone as transponder improve capabilities aircraft. study presents practical effective well prototype implementation. includes development three main components: (1) A mobile application that transforms into exploiting GPS functionalities, (2) desktop visualizes data real time on map, (3) backend bridges application. To evaluate study, flight tests were performed over Isle Wight UK.
